Frequently Asked Questions...
Kenmore/Whirlpool washer issue?
I was having an issue with our washer a week ago. It would not switch over to spin cycle and would stay in drain cycle. I tried to restart the cycle (as this fixed it the last time) and it would not start the cycle again. It would start a wash cycle without adding water. I unplugged the unit for a few days and came back to it and it works fine now. Could this be an issue with some residual water left in the drainage system that could not be drained completely during the drainage cycle and that water has been evaporated or completely drained that it can now restart a new wash, rinse, drain spin cycle.
Im not sure on the age. I think its old (at least 5-7 years old) it has 3 dials (one for cycle starting, 1 for load size and 1 for temp)
also note that before I unplugged it for a few days, I unplugged it for an 1 hr and replugged it back in and it was still unable to restart a fill and wash cycle.
Answer:
Is it a fairly new washer with electronic controls. If it is it has probably had a power surge. Unplugging it allowed it to reset the electronics in it. Back in the early 89's RCA and GE had that problem with the TVs that they made.
