Water, Water Everywhere - Receiving What You Need to Keep Hydrated
Are you aware of what makes you up? When someone asks, do you know what makes you, well, you? You may not realize it, but about 4/5 of every human being is identical - water. That's why physicians can often be heard reminding you how it’s important to drink water and reduce your intake of carbonated beverages. The volume of water each person needs changes with their body weight. Standard practice is to take your body weight, and drink half of it in ounces of water every single day. E.g., a person who is 140 lbs needs to take in water to a volume of more or less 70 ounces every 24 hours.
Why do humans need such vast amounts of just one liquid? From helping our bodies digest food To monitoring our temperature, water is crucial to make our bodies work. The majority of water in our bodies is held in our cells’ walls. If you happen to be the kind who always fails to get their daily intake, you’re likely to be a victim of dehydration. People who fall into this category most likely suffer from weakened immune systems and chemical imbalances.
How can you tell that you’re becoming dehydrated? The body’s first reaction to water deficiency is, of course, feeling like you need a drink. So, when you feel like you need to find a soda, your best choice is to go to the nearest drinking tap. Caffeinated soda and juice both contain water, but none can compare to pure H2O. As well, if urine begins to become yellower than normal, this can be a warning signal that you’re not giving yourself the fluid you require to properly excrete waste. Beware, as not getting enough water can often lead to infection of the urinary tract. Other conditions are soon to follow.
If you ever get an indicator of dehydration from your body, it is wise to start the process of drinking more water at home. Though, if any indications occur in conjunction with or because of sickness or diarrhea then it may be best to seek medical attention. People suffering Bulimia Nervosa, an eating disorder characterized by inducing vomiting often dehydrate and experience electrolyte imbalances. These imbalances are able to cause sudden heart problems and muscle fatigue. Not getting enough water can kill if one goes without water completely for more than a short time. Stuck outside, exposed to intense heat, a person can only survive two days, while in cooler climates, this goes up to ten days.
Sometimes you might find it problematic to fill your water quotient every day. If you have trouble imbibing the entire amount, you can make up your water intake in other ways. Foods which contain a lot of water may be more enjoyable than always drinking the same, tasteless water to keep your H2O volume up. Water-laden fruits like apples, melons, grapes, tomatoes and cucumbers all fine selections. Cutting up certain ‘juicy’ fruits and putting them in ice water can also entice you to drink more. Now that you know how important and simple it is to get a sufficient amount of hydration, tell it to all your friends and family!

Frequently Asked Questions...
Is a Brita Pitcher a good gift?
Hi
considering buying someone a Brita Pitcher for Christmas.
He drinks tap water now, when he's at home. Also makes
concentrated juice jugs with tap. I think he would prefer
the taste of the Brita water, particularly when he wants a glass
of cold water.
Does this make a good gift? Or is it more of a hassle than anything else,
due to the need to constantly buy himself the filters after?
Answer:
It is a good gift. Check with the city your friend lives in though. I have used Brita filtered water pitchers for 10 years while I lived in Texas where the water in the city I lived in sucked. I moved back home to Long Beach, Ca. some years ago. The water here is amazing: clean, clear and the city fluoridates it. How cool is that? Anyway, I found out that the Brita and Pur will filter out the Fluoride so I only use the filtered water for my house plants
Under normal usage, the filters should be changed about every three months. A very simple procedure.
