Why does my central A/C unit leak water from underneath the unit soaking my air filter.?
My A/C unit is in a closet inside my home. In mid summer when it's the hottest and humidity is high my unit will leak a lot of water from the unit which will usually soak the filter and puddle the water that eventually begins to saturate the surrounding drywall. I understand the whole condensation explanation and even checked the pvc drain pipe for clogs, but still can't figure out why so much water collects under my unit.

It might be at a slight angle such that the water doesn't completely drain out of it and it collects when the condensation is high. You can probably check it with a level to see if the unit is at a slight angle. Otherwise, someone might have improperly installed the unit and the condensate drain, such that it doesn't drain the condensate properly.
